Hepatitis C & Massage Therapy: What You Need to Know
QuestionIs receiving a massage with this virus, does it overload the liver; and is this healthy?
AnswerHi Carol
As far as my experiences with those with Hepatitis C there are no contraindications in receiving massage therapy.
I have two suggestions:
1. Consult with your primary care doctor and ask if it's OK. This is just to be 100% sure.
OR
2. Make an appointment with a Reiki (pronounced Ray-Kee) practitioner. Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation and emotional healing. Many massage therapists are trained in it. I have been teaching Reiki for 10 years and it is very helpful for those who have health challenges, and there are no contraindications. Reiki is a simple laying of hands on your body without tissue manipulation. Unlike massage you remain clothed and covered with a light blanket during the session. The therapist places his or her hands on specific areas of your body starting from your head and generally finishing at your feet. I feel you will benefit greatly from this type of healing modality.
To your healing,
John Nickolas
