Nail Gel Solutions for Damaged Nails: A Comprehensive Guide

Question
Hello Susana, Thanks for youre reply. My doctor says the thickening and detachment was caused by the local trauma on my big toe. (IE, a large tin can falling on my foot..ouch!) and he says there isnt much he can do, other than to remove it, to see if it grows back properly again. However, he said that this isnt guaranteed, and the nail bed can shrink while 'waiting' for the nail to grow back.

So, nail gels? Can I buy this stuff in shops or online? Do you reccomend any brands etc?

By the way, what is the best thing to use on my fingernail cuticles to make them grow nicely? as they are a bit scruffy at the mo.
(I'm doing well at quitting biting my nails!!)

Thanks again.

Jen

Hi Susana,

I have a problem with my big toenail, it it thicker than other nails, and yellow, with pink nail bed bits towards the bottom. I know it isn't fungus, as I injured it with an impact and it now doesnt really grow and attach to the nail bed matrix as normal.

If I can try just disguising the nail colour, it wont be so bad looking. But alot of nail varnishes are too shiny and artificial looking, and I just want it to look more like a normal pink nail.

Is there any natural looking pinky type brands or colours that you reccomend that i can paint on to camoflage the yellowness? As I said, I dont want it to LOOK like I have nail varnish on, or it to be overly shiny etc.

Its a pain, as I dont like boyfreinds seeing it!

Regards,

Jen.

Have you been to the doctor and asked if this can be corrected? Maybe it is. And if it isn't i think you won't be able to get a coverage pink that look natural with polish. I think you should try gel toes. Ask your nail tech (or a nail tech) if she has a pink coverage gel that can hide your yelowish toe. Gel gives a very natural look and lasts lots more than polish.

Answer
You can not purchase gel to apply yourself, you have to get these done by a professionail nail tech. The best way to remove your nasty cuticles is by using a cuticle remover with AHA and then scraping of the losened cuticles.
Hope the gel toes work for you.
