QuestionAnother tech saw me and said this is lifting of nails from the nail bed. An allergic reaction to toxins. It took 2.5 hrs to remove using pure acetone. They think that the illegal, cheaper, toxic MMA bonding acrylic liquid was put on my nails.
-------------
Last week I got nail enhancements for the first time. I chose to get acrylic nails with white tip extensions. I went into the discount salon with nicely kept nails that had a good length white free-edge because I don't bite my nails. A couple days later, I started noticing white free-edge showing up below the white tip extensions that were placed on my nails. As time has elapsed, the white free-edge showing below the white tip extensions has become more and more noticeable.

There are a couple of reasons that this could happen.
A) NAILS GROW. Everyone's nails grow at different rates, and it's inevitable that your natural free edge will show at some point. How soon varies upon that person's nails rate of growth. It's best not to compare your nail growth to another persons.
B) TIP PLACEMENT. I'm assuming that the same product and same kind of tips were used (there are a multitude of different kinds of tips...). That being said, was it a different technician that did your friends? Perhaps she placed the tips differently on the nails.
Also, you said you already had a decent free edge. If so, and if the technician did NOT trim/file your own free edge, this will affect the placement of the tip on the nail and it won't be placed low enough. The less free edge, the lower the tip may be placed.
ALSO in regards to discount salons. PLEASE refer to this link to inform yourself about a toxic product that is often used in discount salons or "NSS" salons. This link will help you identify a quality salon vs a poor quality salon. Price is not 'always' indicative.
AnswerRegarding this statement:
"Another tech saw me and said this is lifting of nails from the nail bed. An allergic reaction to toxins. It took 2.5 hrs to remove using pure acetone. They think that the illegal, cheaper, toxic MMA bonding acrylic liquid was put on my nails."
If it took 2.5hrs to remove the enhancements, then most definately an illegal toxic MMA based acrylic WAS used. Whether or not your natural nails are actually lifting, I could not say without looking at them. Some people have deeper free edge than others. If they are lifting, it could be A) the mma causing a reaction and doing this B)you could have gotten an infection causing this and you'll need a prescription to take care of it. C) the tech putting MMA on you may have used the 'one ball method' of applying the acrylic and so it shrunk too much and put pressure on your nail plate, lifting it from the nail bed.
If indeed your nails ARE lifting, my suggestion is to A) go without enhancements and seek a dr's professional opinion and keep your nails ULTRA short until such time as they've 're-attached'. OR if you choose to get enhancements, keep them VERY VERY short so that no free edge is 'catching' on anything and then causing more trauma to the already existing 'lift'.
I wish you the best of luck.
NOTE: it's odd that it took your new tech 2.5hrs to remove them. She could have filed them GENTLY to the thinnest layer and THEN soaked the rest off. It would have taken MUCH less time.
