QuestionI like getting a french manicure, but literally within a day, especially after showering, it will chip. I was wondering if a uv gel could be applied to my nails after the polish, to keep the polish from chipping.
I have asked at two nails salons, both say no, and try to get me to get acrylic nails.
Could I purchase the uv lamp and the clear gel and put it on at home after a manicure?
AnswerUv gel can not be painted over nail polish because it needs and "non-shinny" surface to adhere, but french can be painted using a white gel. Having a natural nail overlayed with gel can last up to 3 weeks depending on your nail growth, and the french will say put without chiping or discolourating.
Never the less, i don't recomend that you do this at home, gel is a professional product that should only be used by a trained professional.
If you're not interested in any type of enhancement there are some thing you can do to make your polish last longer, for example clean the nail surface very well with acetone before aplying the nail polish, always use a good base coat before the color polish and avoid having your nail in water for too long, specially hot water, so wear gloves when doing dishes and other household chores.
