QuestionI have a client that has successfully worn acrylics for several years. Within the last couple months she has experienced them not just lifting but falling off completely, almost as if they are not adhereing properly. I double prime her always. BUT she has recently started taking a low dose of blood pressure medicine AND she having some major hormonal problems. Could the comination be causing this? If so, what should I do. I would appreciate your held. Thanks.
AnswerHi Julie,
I must confess, I am not an acrylic user. However, I do belong to two message boards for professional nail techs. Having said that, your client's problem is not an uncommon one with ANY enhancement system. I myself have a client that has lifting issues due to her meds and other health problems. We combatted it by double bonding her (I use UV Gel) with firstly a protein liquid bonder, then a gel bonder applied afterwards. This has not eradicated the problem, but she's able to go 2wks between fills with minimal lift compared to her past experiences with standard liquid and powder acrylics.
As per other technicians, they say that for "some" clients, changing brands, or changing the enhancement system altogether may work (example: L&P to uv gel, or vice versa, or L&P to dips, or to wraps...). For others, changing the type of primer you are using to another may work, or even switching to a bonder in place of a primer and or using both together.
I regret, you'll simply have to experiment as the solution is not the same for all clients and their unique health issues.
Also be sure to doubly dehydrate the nail. This also helps sometimes.
I hope that I've been of some help.
Best regards and best of luck
