LCN vs. Acrylic vs. Dip Powder: Understanding Your Nail Enhancement Options

Question
Can you please tell me if and what the difference is between LCN and permanent french or are they the same thing.  I want to get my nails done and I am getting very confused b/c I'm not sure what to ask for.  What do you think is the best?

Answer
Hi Beth! Thanks for your questions!

When you refer to 'permanent' nails, you could be referring to every type of 'artificial nail enhancements' there are. First of all, any enhancement should not be considered 'permanent', and I can understand how some people would think they're permanent, but they're not. They can always be removed, and the enhancements would eventually grow out. Therefor artificial nails need to be maintained (filled) on a regular basis. When you refer to 'french' nails you can also refer to any type of enhancement, because you can get any type of enhancement as a french. So if you asked for permanent french you would probly have gotten what you wanted.

Before I completely lose you on this, I will tell you the basics of the different types (systems) of 'artificial nail enhancements'. And what LCN is.

1)Wrap System (Silk or Fiber Wrap)
This enhancement is applied by a resin(glue) covered by a fabric, more glue and an spray on activator to harden the product. This product limits you to how long you can keep the french look most people resort to polish only because it usually discolors over time. This product has also been know to be irritating to the skin or the body because of the vapors.

2) Liquid & Powder System (L&P or Acrylic)
This enhancement is applied by sticking a brush in liquid then into powder to form a ball of acrylic to be smoothed out upon the nail. Acrylic air dries. This products biggest issue is the smell.

3) UV Cured Gel System (Gels)
This product comes in a gel form to be applied to the nail and is hardened (cured) by being placed under a UV light. There is little or no odor to this product.

So LCN is a UV Cured Gel System. I've never used LCN but I have heard nothing but GOOD things about this product. I love the look and feel of Gels, and you can have them as a french too! So I say go for it! Remember to get a fill every two to three weeks and ask your technician for cuticle oil which should be applied 1 to 2 times a day. Try to wear gloves during household chores.

Beware of Non Standard Salons (NSS) or discount salons using an illegal product called Methyl-Methacrylate (MMA). It is a scary and dangerous thing, read up on it and tell your friends! http://www.nailsbydesign.homestead.com/MMA.html

If you have any more questions or if I made no sense what so ever, let me know!

Thanks Beth,

Jeannie
