Nail Tips & Finger Pain: What Went Wrong & How to Relieve It

Question
I had a few paper cuts around my fingers, but went to get nail tips done. This was my first time in over 12 yrs. The girl used her own fingernail to push my cuticles, and I have had pain in all my fingers since. I used neosporm to relive the pain, and slight swelling. everything else appears normal. What can I do to help relieve this throbbing pain?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Marilyn;

Sorry to hear about this situation. NEVER in my 17 years AS AN AESTHETICIAN/NAIL TECH, have I ever heard of this practise of an professional Aesthetician using her own fingernail to push back a clients cuticle.
DID she wear anything on her nails (gloves, finger cots, etc.) when pushing your's back?? I doubt it by the tone of your post...

I would be contacting the operator of the salon and my physician as well. Her nail might not have been contagious but if this is a regular practise of her's, then the client before you might have had the same service and there are all kinds of breakage in the cutile area.... NOT at all sanitary, clean or professional at all.

IN all honestly I would strongly suggest your contacting the owner of the shop, the Aesthetician whom performed this service and your family Dr. At the very least to show what occured and your displeasure about it. Also be sure to make notes of your calls, as this could be serious at some point.  The Dept. of health regulates the shops, and this lady could loose her license if this was a everday practise not to mention the fact that it could harm you and as well the Aesthetician. Bacteria, microbes, blood born virus's etc. can enter thru open skin, even minute particals can enter and you can get very sick by this. Did you say anything to this personwhen she did this? And did she state why she was pushing your cuticle back without a sterilized implement? ( seralized in UV light and solution to KILL< NOT retard bacteria growth, virus's and microbes. I use disposable implements now and call around for your next service to a shop whom practises high level's of sterilization and disposable implement's ( orangewood sticks) when pushing back cuticles or working around skin or extractions, etc.

Really, Let the Dr. look at it. Make an appt. today, Dont take chances with your health as it does not matter how much $ you have if you dont have your health or feel good enough to enjoy it!.

Please let me know how you made out and please, you can email me at my business at spa_mobile@yahoo.ca

Good Luck dear. I look forward to hearing from you!
