Understanding 'What's New Gel Nails' Powder: Is it a Gel Nail?

Question
I was just reading the label on the product being used on my gel fill. It says "What's New Gel Nails", and it's a powder. My tech brushes my nail with RESIN, then dips my finger into the powder. That's it. Other than prepping the nail, and filing afterward, this is suppose to be a gel nail. No UV lights are used. Am I getting a gel nail here? I'm paying more for one!

Answer
What is being used on you is acrylic dip powder, and it isn't new.  It's based on the same process as fiberglass or silk wraps, instead using a fine polymer powder with resin, and sometimes a spray activator to harden the resin.  It isn't extremely durable, and become fairly brittle over time.  UV Gel must always be cured with a UV Lamp.
