Red Streaks Under French Manicure: Causes & Solutions

Question
ELYSE-  I LIKE TO GET THE FRENCH MANICURE. MY PROBLEM IS A THIN NAIL BED.  WHEN THE MANICURIST USES THE ELECTRIC SANDER OR WHATEVER IT IS CALLED IT LEAVES RED STREAKS THAT SHOW THROUGH THE CLEAR POLISH. IS THERE ANOTHER PROCEDURE THEY CAN DO TO PREVENT THIS? CAN THEY JUST LIGHTLY ROUGH UP MY NAIL BED FOR THE ACRYLIC TO ADHERE TO MY NAILS? THANK YOU !

Answer
Hi Robin,
PLEASE look for a new nail tech, one who is skilled either in the use of the electric file (it CAN be used without damaging the nail plate!)or in hand filing. A tech who leaves "rings of fire" such as you describe is not properly trained in e-file use, and will continue to cause more damage, especially if you already have a thin nail plate to begin with. With the professional products available today, it's not necessary to rough up the nail plate at all--just removing the shine with a high-grit abrasive does the job.  A well-trained nail tech will be able to do this for you. :)

You can search for a reputable nail tech on Beautytech.com, in the salon locator, or at CND.com, with their locator.

I hope this helps!
