QuestionHi... i have a question when you are doing somebody nails and they have diabetes and you accidently nip there skin and the person with the diabetes start to bleed what do you do do you use a first aid kit, send them to a doctor, or use some kind of chemical to stop the bleeding????
AnswerAnytime blood is accidentally drawn during a service, the tech must stop, put on gloves, clean up the blood spill, and help the client (if help is needed) wash the wound, then apply a bandage. Then the gloves and other waste products should be placed in a sealable plastic bag and disposed of in another plastic bag.
Of course, when it's a diabetic client, cuts like this can be very serious, so the client should visit her doctor to make sure there is no infection. Generally speaking, the nail tech shouldn't apply anything else but the bandage, but I have used a bit of my nail plate cleanser on a clean, lint-free pad and cleansed the area as well (if the client can tolerate the sting--it's mostly alcohol.) before bandaging.
There is product called styptic powder that stops bleeding, but I think most state's current laws prohibit its use in the salon for sanitation reasons.
I hope that helps. :) Feel free to follow up if you have any other questions!
