Understanding Cyanoacrylate Adhesive Reactions: Symptoms & Commonality

Question
Hi Maggie, Sandra again from south africa. Are the symptoms I experienced common? Have you heard of other people who have also experienced the reaction in their mouth? I ask because I am not 100 percent sure it was an allergy to the glue-it may have been something else.

Answer
I'm so sorry, Sandra-- I answered your questions several days ago, but the system here at Allexperts informs me that it might not have been sent.

No. The symptoms you suffered are not typical with cyanoacrylate resins. Most allergic reactions are locally centralized, with the reaction being where your skin came in contact with the product. So experiencing problems with your mouth would mean that you had gotton some of the product in your mouth.

Did you use any sort of activator with the resin? Something that makes the glue set up faster? Activators are much more likely to cause reactions than the resin itself and it would be easy to transfer it to your mouth without realizing it-- especially if it's a spray.

I'd definitely see a doctor and see if you can track down the cause of the reaction.
