Solar Nail Allergy: Understanding Sulfite Sensitivity & Ingredients

Question
QUESTION: I had a serious reaction to Creative Solar Nail PURPLE Liquid and I am trying to determine what ingredient it has that I am allergic to.  The liquid used listed the following ingredients: Ethyl Matsacrylate, Monomers, Dymethyl, UV of Sulpher as an Absorber.  I know for a fact I am very allergic to Sulpha when taken as an antibiotic.  What I need to know is if the Sulpher in this product is in the Sulpha family or totally different from Sulpha.

I saw another comment on the site from another woman who had a reaction to the Blue/Purple liquid. I wonder how common it is for woman to have a reaction to the Creative Liquid used for Solar nails.

ANSWER: Hi Laurie,

Thank you for your kind request.

To answer your question properly I would like to know what allergic reaction you encountered, where, how long etc. Before I give an opinion about a brand or ingredient I need some more information to answer more precisely.

I look forward to your answer so we can find out what happened.

Best Regards.

QUESTION: Hi David
As you have requested, here is the reaction I had to the purple liquid. Immediately, as I was leaving the nail salon the top segment of each finger and my thumbs turned bright red and were burning.  Also, it felt like my solar nails would pop off if I touched them they were so tender and sore.  I took 2 Benadryl's as soon as I got home and they settled down after a few hours. As part of these particular solar nails they also used a powder which had the following ingredients:-
Metacrylate, Bezoyl Peroside, Titanium Dioside, Iron Oxides

Answer
Most probably you are allergic to the monomer for which there is no cure. Stay away from acrylic nails for a while and try a gel brand such as IBD/EzFlow or SuperNail and see what the results are.

the reaction is not uncommon but unpleasant to say the least.

Please keep me updated on the Gel experience.
