Addressing Disproportionate Thigh & Hip Size: A Comprehensive Guide
QuestionI am currently 22 years old and have noticed as I have grown older, weight issues are becoming a problem for me. I weigh anywhere from 122-127 lbs. I am 5'6". When I was younger, I was extremely thin, I was always encouraged to eat more, and so I did and now I am very displeased with my results. My stomach is washboard flat, my arms are thin and shapely as well as my calves. My problem is that my hips and thighs are disproportionately large.I am having a particular amount of trouble toning my hips and the back of my thighs. I would like to be in a size 3 jean again. WHen I was extremely thin I was a size 0 or 1, so I think a size 3 is a reasonable goal. I am currently a 5/6. My question is, what should I do? I worked with a trainer for three months and lost very little. I gained muscle in my arms and back with her, but saw little other results especially with my legs. My eating habits are also relatively good. I eat little fast food and incorporate and wide gamet of fresh fruits and vegetables. I do not drink soft drinks or coffee, only water. What else should I do? I've also noticed a lot of cellulite appearing. I have read a lot about it and believe I am to understand that there is not a lot to do about that short of surgery or expensive procedures. If this is the case I would be ok with that. I am willing to accept the things I cannot change. What is your advice for me and how long do you think it will take to achieve my goals if I stick with a plan? Also, do you have any diet/exercise books or workouts you would recommend to me based on what I have said? I really appreciate any and all advice! Very Sincerely, Laura
Answeryou are right, you can not do much about cellulite short of surgery. the stuff they sell on tv and in the stores is a waste of money and will do you no good. cellulite is a results of fat deposits underneath the skin. I won't give you the long complicated medical explanation for it. But to reduce cellulite you need to exercise those areas, TONE them, don't BUILD them. This will help replace the fat in that area and maybe give you a smoother look. There is a difference between toning your muscles and building muscle mass. If you want to bulk up, you do a few sets of weihgts that you max yourself out on... when you are trying to tone you do a low amount of weight (so the exercise seems somewhat easy), but do several sets. The exercises that I suggest you concentrate on are hip adductors and abductors.
By the way, you are exactly in the range that you are supposed to be for your weight... actually on the lower end.
