QuestionHi, I'm interested in gold plating natural objects like leaves and using them as jewelry. I've been looking for information on the subject and so far all I can find is a jar of paint-on gold designed for use on car parts. It's too expensive to just assume it will work. Can you help?
Thank you!
AnswerGreetings, and I apologise sincerely for my slow response as my All Expert e-mail have been getting redirected to a sub folder by the server.....ah the joy of modern tech.
I have answered this question previously.....check my previous answers.
Anything metal that carries a current can be directly plated, whereas organic things can be electro formed and plated. Usually you would varnish the object to stiffen it, and then paint it with elctro-dag which is a paint which will carry a current....which you can then plate.
Remember, that you will want the object to be able to stand up to some knocking, movement etc, so you need to ensure that you have hardened it enough with something like shellac or epoxy prior to plating.
Hope this is of assistance.
