QuestionHello Peter..
I am trying to remove the vermeil coating on a sterling siver bead
necklace,I am a great detail polisher and have tried most commercial
cleaners ,yet have not been able to remove all the "gold". Any
'solution'that is not overly toxic ,or could I try finest steel wool/ Help!!!
Where are you located ?! Hoping...thanks,Megan
AnswerGreetings,
I apologise for the slow response, having just got married a couple of weeks ago I've been a bit occupied and forgot to turn on the away message. Woops.
Unfortunately the only non toxic way to remove the coating is through sheer hard work and determination.
I would probably use brass cleaner, or for that matter actually polish it with a polishing mop and jewellers rouge, which will be much faster.
Steel wool will simply scratch the beads, so you need to use something that will polish and remove the coating without scratching as described.
Good Luck, I am in Australia. Cheers, Peter
