Gemstone Bubbles & Inclusions: Quartz Quality & Causes

Question
Hello,
I have two questions for you about gemstones; Question #1: I recently
bought some "lemon quartz crystal" briolettes online.  They have bubbles
in them.  Is this really quartz or is it glass?  Can quartz contain
bubbles? Question # 2: What exactly are inclusions, and what causes them?
Thank you for your time!
Peace,
Joan

Answer
hello Joan..
first I am not an expert on Quartz at all...I can tell you this..when I go to the Tucson gem show I always look at the Herkimer Diamonds..I am pasting this information...Herkimer diamonds are a particular formation of Quartz Crystal, which can be found in Herkimer, New York, USA. Other crystals which exhibit a similar formation also are sometimes referred to as "herkimers.".. One very revealing curiosity found contained within some Herkimer Diamonds are liquid inclusions.  Many crystals have liquid trapped inside, but the high clarity of the Herkimer Diamond allows these inclusions to be seen with the naked eye.  Study of liquid inclusions in Herkimer Diamonds sheds some light on the conditions which existed during their formation.

Analysis of the liquid inside the inclusion shows that the solution is mostly water and salts.  This salt water was trapped inside the diamonds during their growth stage, confirming that seawater was present.  Many of these liquid inclusions have bubbles which float about in the liquid.  Some of the bubbles are CO2 gas, but not all.
sometimes a small black spec will be flosting in the liguid trapped in the crytal...
this information may not pertain to lemon quartz....but it does show that quartz has inclusions and bubbles..
Hope this helps
