Repurposing Your Mother's Gold Ring: Custom Jewelry Options

Question
Hi, I was given my mothers ring when she passed a wedding band gold think  9 or 18ct..It is tarnished due to her long stay in hospital and treatment, i would like to have it remade into a charm or some sort. Could you advise whom i would approach regarding this craft?

Regards

K MacKenzie

Answer
Karen, the best contact would be a local jeweler who does custom work. Making something special designed for you from your metal is certainly custom work.

You should find the places doing that work.  Often phone books are the first place to start followed with a phone call to be sure a bench jeweler works on the premises. The bench jeweler is the one who actually does the work.

Then, visit a few and if they can show items they have made, take a look and notice if well done to your eye. Then get some ideas or estimates for the work.  I suggest trying several places if available since quality of work can vary greatly.

Best wishes with forming the ring from you mother into something new and very special.
