QuestionQUESTION: Hi Les, Was wanting to know how to remove small diamonds from bracelets and rings? I just started buying gold and before sending the items to the refinery I would like to remove the diamonds to get the true weight. Can you suggest a tool or way to remove the diamonds from the jewelry? Thanks, Jim
ANSWER: Jim
which refinery are you using, as they are all very deceptive, be careful .....I would assay your own gold first and send those items to the refiner to see how they pay you, are they paying you by percentage? by assay ? Their reputations in the industry are like those of the medicine men in the old west.

QUESTION: Hi Les, I'm using Kitco. Do you have one you recommend? So far the little I have dealt with them they have been accurate and pay more than most. On their web site they show how much they will pay per gram at the current gold spot. Please let me know if you know of a better or safer one to deal with if this one is not on the up and up. So far so good with em though. Jim
ANSWER: Kitco is good, I have not dealt with them....do they pay as advertised based on the weight you send them or the assay?

QUESTION: They pay by the weight per gram not one of those pennyweight guys that make it look like your getting a lot per pennyweight. They pay the highest from what I have seen plus I have received 3 checks from them and all have been for what I figured when sent in. They seem real organized too. Have you visited their site? THey show what they pay.
So just to be clear, do you suggest that I just send the gold that has small diamonds in them to the refinery and let them figure out the difference instead of me trying to pluck em out some how? Thanks again, Jim
Answerno that is not what Im saying.....if the diamonds are real small and very cloudy included and single cut, I would not even bother taking them out....the refiners melt the gold and have a special process by which the gemstones are separated and sorted. This is part of their profit margin along with the Silver, Palladium and other alloys they remove from your gold, if kitco is working for you by all means Good Luck.
What is the percentage you receive on 14kt ??? being 58.5%
