Reproducing Raw Stone Rings: A Practical Guide

Question

Raw Stone Ring
I have a ring (see attached image) that I would like to duplicate, meaning I want to make rings and pendants just like it with other raw stones I have. I was going to buy sheet silver , form it to the bottom of the stone by folding it up along the sides and snipping it to the desired height, then I planned to just turn it over (so the silver side is facing upward) and blast all the silver with a torch so it kinda melts to the form of the stone. Is this even possible - am I totally wrong about my approach? It seems like it would work but I admittedly have no idea what I'm doing. If you have any suggestions on how to recreate this ring I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!

Answer
hello lane...I can not imagine you could "melt" shiver over the stone...the first thing that will happen is the stone will crack and break...and when silver melts it moves fast and would just puddle..
having said that...you can always give try a try...
the shank you can buy chear premade...and with a bit of a curve
which is nicer for rings...
here is an idea you have to persue...there is a prosses of
layering metal on stones bu electro dipping...the stone is covered by some sort of conductive apint or liquid that dries on the stone ..then it is dipped inti electro bath and the metal
layers everywhere the ligid has been deposited...this is done over and over until a good build up is made....now I have only seen this in gold color..but you may be able to do this in silver..
try calling RioGrande catalog in Alberqueqe New Mexico...and explain what I suggested.....the term electroplating should get you on the right track..

PS very interesting ring design..
