QuestionHi Thomas
I've bought a very beautiful paraiba tourmaline, pear shape, approx 6 carats. I've also had a diamond setting custom made for this stone (china). Now I have both and need someone here to set my stone, which shouldn't be a problem, but I'm a little paranoid about who to give it for mounting! I'm scared that I may not get it back at all or they might ruin the stone if not experienced setters.
Please advise with any hints you may have on setting such a stone (the mount should be fine, I gave the manufacturers the stone dimensions; the setting is 3 prong).
Many thanks in advance
ivanka
AnswerDear Ivanka, the paraiba is a most beautiful gemstone!
My suggestion is to find a higher end jewelry business for this work. Why? Yes, they may charge more or they may not. High end jewelers with bench jewelers working in the store is my recommendation. This is not to say other jewelers cannot do as well. The reason I say high end is because of the clientele, the customers they service in such work as repair and stone setting and jewelry design. The business will not want to do anything to cause a good customer to leave and not return. The business depends on the reputation among their customers and friends of their customers. For these reasons, an established higher end business which has been in business for several years is the place I recommend.
I do hope this short and simple answer will assist you. When the ring is done and ready to wear, if you can get a photo and want to let me see it, please do that.
Best wishes, God Bless and Peace. Thomas.
