WWII Ring Identification: Help Determine Origin of Ring with Turban Figure

Question
During WWII my Dad was in Germany and found a ring after a battle, we have had it ever since. I have taken it to jeweler's and they do not know it's origin. It is very heavy and has a man with a turban on his head that is raised up from the base. He didn't know if it came from a German soldier or not. Would you have any idea?

Answer
Thank you for your inquiry. If there are no markings on the inside of the ring i.e. hallmarks, initials, metal information, it will be difficult to tell much about the metal unless it is tested for gold or silver. This would need to be done by someone with the proper testing materials (acid). As for the design, it could be indicative of several countries that were involved in WW2. You might check with your local library for a "costuming" book. They usually have pictures of various countries in native dress and you might at least be able to get an idea of the origin of the ring. If you want a valuation or research, you should take the ring to an estate appraiser. They would take care of the metal testing and the research for a fee. Usually $25-50 for one item. Your local museum or antique shop could probably give you a reference.  Hope this helps and sorry I couldn't help you further. Good luck and enjoy your ring.
