Building Trust in Online Sales: Reassuring Buyers of Authenticity

Question

Tiffany Berry spoon
I have been collecting for 50 years, have recently retired, and pursuing my passion with an ebay store.  Selling really valuable things has prooved frustrating on "The Great White Elephant" because of the issue (understandably) of 'trust.' For example' the Tiffany Berry Spoon, which is listed on online stores for $1200. How do I reassure buyers that my little motheaten shop really does have some superb items, offered at real bargains?  I have had the same frustrating experience with a Currier and Ives rare print, Tiffany antique china, and swiss antique watches.

Answer
Hello Evelyn and thank you for your inquiry. Ebay is such a vase selling medium that many times things will go unnoticed. I sell on ebay and have been for over 10 years. It takes awhile to build up a customer base but there are things you can do that can help - offer a customer email newsletter where you can offer your newest items - use the auction upgrades once in awhile - borders, colors. Get active in online forums such as at yahoo.com . I belong to a couple of jewelry forums and you can establish new customers as well as share information. Ebay has forums that you can join for support. Always keep items at auction so people will list you as a "favorite". Another thing I do is put a note in all my packages or little gift item or offer free postage on their next purchase. I don't have an ebay shop so I don't know what other promotional programs they have but the main thing is to keep your presence online. The more things you list, the more people you draw and, no - I'm not an ebay employee. Just a retired lady like you trying to make a living doing something I love. Hope this helps and good luck.
