Identifying & Valuing Antique Gold Pocket Watch Chain with Profile Markings

Question
I have an 18kt (tested) gold POcket watch chain about 62" long. On the clasp and the rings there are small markings of a man's head. (looks like a profile of Caesar or Alexader the Great) I was wondering if you know of the significance of these markings. (origin?) Worth? I know the chain is very old and came here from Europe possibly Romania and was suppose to be from Royalty? If you need any further info I will forward it. THe marking can only be seen thru a loop so I cannot foward a pic of it.

Answer
Hello Phil and thank you for your inquiry. Without a visual of the mark it would be very difficult for me to tell much about it. Here is a website that lists different world hallmarks including silver and gold. You might be able to recognize the profile in one of the sections and then go from there. Just copy and paste the below url into your browser address field and hit enter:

Since your chain is 18K it might be worth it to have an estate jewelry appraiser do a valuation including hallmark search. It sounds very nice. Hope this helps !
