Diamond Fractures & Chips: Causes, Locations, and Grading

hi there, when somebody say ..diamonds has open fractures and chips, why and where it is usually located?thanks

USUALLY YOU WOULD SEE THESE TERMS ON A DIAMOND GRADING REPORT. OPEN FRACTURES USUALLY OCCUR WHEN THE STONE IS BEING CUT OR IN ROUGH USAGE BUT THEY CAN ALSO OCCCUR NATURALLY. THEY CAN BE ANYWHERE IN THE STONE BUT IF THEY ARE FROM ROUGH USAGE THEY MAY BE CLOSE TO THE GIRDLE (THE OUTER RIM OF THE STONE) OR AT THE CULET (THE FINE POINT AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE DIAMOND). THESE ARE ALSO THE FAVORITE SPOTS FOR CHIPS TO HAPPEN ALSO. THANKS
