Fixing a Double-Sided Omega Necklace That Won't Lay Flat

Thomas:  Hi!   I love my new white gold/yellow gold 16" omega but it keeps flipping up.  What can I do?   Is there any kind of "brace" or some other thing that will keep it against my neck?  I have heard that this is a problem with this necklace for lots of folks. Please advise.

Patt, the basic problem some ladies have with two sided omega style necklaces is based in the very fact the necklace is double sided.  A one side omega generally has a built-in curve to it which helps the somewhat inflexible necklaces stay flat on the neck.  

The two side ones are essentially flat and will lay flat in most cases. When the necklace does not lay flat or flips, it generally is because of one or more of three causes: 1. A pendant is on the necklace and the shape of the bail (pendant loop top) and weight of the pendant pull the necklace over.  2. The necklace is too short.  3. The necklace is too short and is contacting collar bones preventing the necklace from drooping as it needs to to lay flat.

A fourth possibility but not often seen is the neckace may have a twist in it. Take the necklace off and fasten the clasp.  Then, lay the necklace on a flat table surface. Try both sides and see if the necklace is equally flat on the table, white side up or yellow side up.  This will show any twist which might be there.  A new necklace should have no twist.  If the necklace has been worn for a while and has a twist, the seller will not feel any responsibility to replace it with one that lays flat. If a recent purchase, the seller may very well replace the necklace for another which does lay flat on both sides.

Patt, I do not know of any sort of attachment to keep it against your neck. You might try to see that if fits as closely to the back of your neck as possible with as much weight forward as possible. You might also try putting a pendant on the necklace to add a touch of weight to that area.

Also, there is not a whole lot which can be done to correct the problems, especially if it is a combination of shorter necklace and collar bone structure.
