Drop Necklaces: Definition & Style Guide | [Your Brand Name]

Question
Dear Sir,
I have a simple question for which I can find no answer.  Can you define a "drop
necklace" for me?
Thank you.

Answer
Hi, Edward.  There are many terms used in jewelry of which many are not familiar. Oftentimes, men are left in the dark while the ladies keep up with fashion trends.

In the most general sense, a drop necklace is one with a central drop part, such as a pendant which is part of the necklace more than an add on. The pendant drops below the main curve of the necklace body.

In some cases, this might describe a necklace with ends which come together in the front and lower part of the necklace, held together by a movable slide or similar device above the ends of the ends. The ends of the necklace are designed to be seen and contain the primary decoration.

You may find other definitions among the public, considering so much depends on trend and location for definitions which are in popular use. For instance, see the link below for a costume item which contains the term drop:

I do hope this helps in some small way.

God Bless and Peace.      Thomas.
