QuestionI HAVE A 0.5 CT TENNIS BRACELET MARKED 825 OG WHAT DOES THE 825 OG STAND FOR
AnswerAmanda, the marks you gave me do not match the standard ones for metal quality in the United States. Is the bracelet yellow? Are the stones diamonds, CZ's or something else? The reason I ask is because with no more information I would need the bracelet in my hands to examine to give you an accurate answer.
Please look at the number again very closely. Is it possible the 8 in the 825 is actually a 9? It would not take much of a missed strike to blur the 9 so it looks something like an 8. The reason is this: Gold Vermeil (ver-may) is sterling with an overlay of gold, a thin gold plated surface. The only mark required is the primary metal mark which would be 925 for sterling. The OG could be the makers mark or possibly stand for "overlay gold".
I would suspect if the bracelet is yellow that it is vermeil. If not and you do not know where the bracelet was purchased originally to check it out that way, a jeweler can test the metal or take a look at the bracelet to let you know more. Generally if karat gold the marking is going to be either 10k, 14k(585) or 18k(750) along with a makers mark.
Best wishes and God Bless. Thomas.
