Identifying Your 18K Italy M Gold Bracelet: What You Need to Know

Question
Hi
I just acquired a twisted hinged bangle bracelet.  It has a makers mark on the inside of the bracelet 18Kt Italy M.  Can you tell me what I have?

Answer
Hello Karen and thank you for your inquiry. Since your bracelet is marked 18Kt,it should mean that it is made up of 750 parts of gold and 250 parts of other metals. The color of the added metals determines the color of the gold i.e. pink gold would have more silver, zinc and copper than white or yellow gold. The mark Italy is the producing country and the M could be the manufacturer. For more information on this mark you would need to get a listing of jewelry manufacturers in Italy. There are several books available - one by Ginger Moro that deals strictly with European jewelry.

To insure the quality as written on the bracelet you should have it appraised by a jeweler or gemologist. I have listed below an online appraisal site that charges a minimal fee and will work from a picture.  Just copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter:

Hope this helps and enjoy your bracelet !
