18K Gold Victorian Cameo Ring – Black & White Pony Tail Design

Question
I have a 18kg Victorian style black and white pony tail lady cameo ring. Inside of the ring there is the marking 18 K.G. and then a small object in which appears to be a small box shape with a slight line on the left side coming up and a small dot in the middle follow by a circled capital A. I was just hoping for some information about the ring if it's worth anything at all.Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
Ashley

Answer
Hello Ashley and thank you for your inquiry. Your cameo sounds very pretty. If your ring is marked 18K that means it is 75% gold.  Most quality pieces are 18K and that is the minimum selling standard for Italy. Gold values fluctuate daily and in order to check your ring you would need to have it tested by a professional for genuine gold and get a gram weight.  Can you tell if the cameo is resin, glass or shell ? That would make a difference in value.  The marking would be difficult to identify without a visual - many companies used a capital A as their mark or design id.  The characteristics of the item might help to identify it. If you ring is 18K, it would have considerable value. I have included a site below ebay.com that shows some cameos similar to what you describe.  Just click on or copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter.
