Identifying Vintage Mourning Jewelry: Tin Type Photo & Glass
Question
pin front
Hello,
My mother found this in a Phoenix thrift shop. The metal is soft and the picture is covered by a hand-cut piece of glass. The photo is of an older man with a beard.
Can you give me any info?
Thanks!
AnswerHello Annie and thank you for your inquiry. The picture on the front resembles a tin type photograph and could be a memorial piece judging by the photo. Since there is no bezel apparent around the photo, it may be a handmade piece. It is difficult to tell without seeing the rest of the brooch and type of backing/closure if it is a brooch. You might check for any markings on the back of the item that may help you id it further. A very lovely find !
