QuestionHi,
I recently received an old Munich (Munchen) silver pin. SOMEBODY PAINTED THE BACK OF IT WITH METALLIC SILVER PAINT! The pin is not Hallmarked (I don't think), but has a very old clasp on it.
First question- How do I safely remove the metallic paint?
Second - Is it possible that it is unmarked silver. I would say it's from the 1910's to 1930's
Any help you might give me is very much appreciated!
Laurie
AnswerHi Laurie, try using regular paint solvent or acetone, those should remove it without damaging the silver. You can also try and scratch it off carefully, but I'd recommend the first method. Also, it would be close to impossible to determine the pin's age if it does not have a stamp on it, but the design might be able to give you some clues.
