Pearl Necklace Value: Understanding Appraisal vs. Market Worth

Hello Rolfe,

I'm a fellow All Experts guy (oldies music) and my wife and I inherited a pearl necklace from my mother. We had it appraised and the jeweler said $2,000.  We'd like to sell the pearls, so my question is, what's the "real" worth or what might the market typically bring?  Thanks for any insight.

Hello Dave..
I'm not a pearl expert...however I know pearls can be very valuable..
I would say do not leave them out of sight when getting appraised..rare but
jewelry does get switched...I would try a couple more appraisals..
also try to find what the comparable has sold for lately...try eBay or Amazon..
also look for people only dealing in pearls..
