Jewelry Estate Appraisal: Estimating Current Value of Inherited Jewelry

Question
I just received my mother's jewelry from her estate.  Can you tell me if it is possible to approximate current value based on a 3/3/1986 appraisal for replacement value?  It's one 14kt gold diamond wedding bank containing 12 diamonds weighing 1.5ct, of grade SI clarity, H-I color for $2,395.00.

Answer
believe it or not I would probably appraise the ring for the same amount today as you have in 1986, I do not like to inflate the prices as this is a dis-service to my customers for insurance purposes. Inflated prices on appraisals only makes the owner feel as if they have something of real value, unfortunately when and if the item is lost or damaged, the insurance company will only pay (most of the time) the actual replacement value based on a wholesale price.
