QuestionI have recently begun cataloging items from my mothers jewelry boxes after her passing. I have come across some interesting "vintage" pieces containing gemstones such as mother of pearl, peach pearls, hematite, oynx, amethyst and violet to name a few. There are also some stamped 925 and STERLING silver cuff/bracelets, pendants, and earrings from Mexican designers/jewelers Taxco, Farfan, and EAA (@ least thats what they look to read. With all that said my question is do any of these elements hold any present day value? What type of value/pricing could they fetch @ auction or sale? How should I get their value certified if needed..?
AnswerFirst generally silver jewelry does not have much value... finer more expensive stones are generally set in gold... all the stones you mentioned are generally very low cost..
there may be a chance some of the initials are by well known designers..
my guess is it would be remote but at least worth looking into
and it's not to say that some of them couldn't be very high quality
or have some sort of a antique value... I would think you could run this by
people who buy estates. They come across this type of jewelry and would
have a very good idea on value. If an estate appraiser gives you a very low value and wants to buy it I would be suspicious until getting at least another independent opinion...
and remember basically the value is only what someone is going to actually pay for it...
is that me know if I can help anymore
