Restoring Burned Diamond Rings: Safe & Effective Solutions
QuestionI was cleaning my two diamond/gold rings by boiling in a pan with dishwash liquid and forgot about them and they boiled dry in the pan! I tried to clean them but the back of the stones are still full of black marks! I am devasted and wonder if you know of any way to restore them. I have heard that soaking in nitric acid could help?
AnswerHi Alison,
That's unfortunate to hear. I don't advise using nitric acid as it can be very tricky to handle and can tarnish the gold of your gold ring. I suggest buying commercial jewelry cleaner instead and cleaning the ring with that. Jewelry cleaner is available in most retail stores. If the marks still don't come off, it is best to take it to a jewelry cleaning shop where they can take care and clean of your rings properly. They might need to use steam cleaning to loosen the residue in order to thoroughly clean the rings. Goodluck!
