QuestionI have a pair of gold post earrings, that have discolored; (a small area on the post) I assume from wearing for an extended period of time. Is there a way that I can clean these, return them to their original state? Any advice would be appreciated.
AnswerDena, the first thing I would try is baking soda. When in a moist paste, the soda has some very mild abrasive quality and may take off the discoloration. Put a small spoon of basking soda in your palm, add a few drops of water to make a paste and then with your fingers rub the soda around the discolored area. Try a cotton swab if finger will not get in close enough.
If this does not work, a jeweler is the best answer. A momentary touch with a polishing brush should shine it all up nicely.
Best wishes. God Bless and Peace. Thomas.
