Question
unknow gold wire piece
Good morning: I have the piece attached and wondered if you could give me possible help on who made it, if it is costume or possibly a custom made piece or how I could get pieces that match it. Thank you.
AnswerGood Afternoon Paul.
What a pretty brooch - I believe this style is called a 'bar pin'. It seems to be made from twisted and filigree wires, some of which are square in profile.
The clasp looks like a simple C type clasp which probably indicates that it was made before the locking C type clasp was introduced, around 1940 in most places.
The brooch looks as though it has suffered some damage, as from the picture it seems to be badly bent and twisted out of shape, as does the pin of the brooch.
Also, there appears to have been something dangling from the mis-shapen bottom bar as the jump ring to attach whatever it was is still there.
The wire could be made of gold, so you probably should get it tested by a jeweller. Have you looked at it carefully all over with high magnification to see if there are any marks anywhere ? They could even be on the side of the pin itself, so do have a careful look if you haven't already.
As to the question of whether you could get pieces which match it, you really need to talk that over with a jeweller. Most are helpful and very willing to discuss items like this.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
Kind regards
erica
