QuestionIf age of a virgin man is fifty, and he wants to marry a virgin girl of age eighteen, then what should he do for successful marriage life? Can he keep her happy throughout life?
AnswerHi Nadeem,
Thanks for writing. I see you are from India and am well aware that your cultural customs and traditions are very different frokm here in the USA where I live and work. In the USA, your situation would be highly unusual -- in fact, I have never personally seen it. It is so rare that I am wondering how a man and woman of such different ages ended up considering marriage?
Even if sex was not an issue, the odds are very much against a man and woman who have a 32-year age difference between them. The generation and maturity gap is so enormous it is unlikely they'd have much in common, I can't imagine an 18-year-old woman being truly happy with a 50-year-old man. Women of that age are still little girls emotionally, even though their body looks like a woman, and frankly, they are not mature enough for such a major commitment. Also, anytime there is a huge gape between a man and woman in age, beauty, power, money, education, we therapists cringe, as this is one of the major predictors of divorce. The 18-year-old woman will change so much in the future as she matures, there is no telling who she will be 10 years from now, but I can assure you she will do a lot of growing up.
So, I am not worried so much about the sex, I am worried about the relationship in general. I just don't see how it could be a happy one. I am sorry, I would have preferred to offer you bettr news.
Hope this helps,
Doctor Becky
