Safe Travel During Third Trimester: Moving in Late Pregnancy
Questionmy husband was recently offered a job in south carolina but we have to move in mid april. i am 31 weeks pregnant right now and will be around 34 weeks when we move. we'll be moving from texas. this isn't my first child so i'm not worried about having a baby away from my family. i am, however, worried about traveling while so close to my due date. my husband wants to drive because hes worried i might go into labor on a plane. my first daughter was due sept. 24 and i ended up having her sept. 19. what do you think i should do? this is a great opportunity for my husband, but we are both concerned with my baby's and my well-being if we decide to move.
AnswerHello Danielle. I wish you had told me how long a drive this will be. Texas to S. Carolina seems like a pretty long drive to me. At 34 weeks you should be just fine to fly- it would not be a very long flight. Driving might be quite uncomfortable for you and you would likely have very swollen feet. Sitting for that long in late pregnancy is not the healthiest thing to do. Your first baby was only five days early- not an unusual thing. I suggest you let your husband drive on ahead if he has to take some of your belongings and you stay with friends until he gets there. Then you fly directly to the nearest airport to meet him. Hope that answers your question.Cheri.
