MMR Vaccine and Pregnancy: What You Need to Know
QuestionHello
I am a 33 year old, healthy and around 5 weeks pregnant. I have one child who is 5 years old. My question is around 4 weeks ago I had the MMR vaccine for some paperwork. I didn't know I was pregnant at the time. I have also had the vaccine when I was younger but could not prove it so I had to have it again.
The first day of my mensral period was April 10th and I had the vaccine on the 23rd of april.
AnswerWe recommend that women who have the Rubella vaccine do not become pregnant for, at least, 6 weeks following the shot. HOwever, there are no reports of any untoward results if you do become pregnant prior to that. It is not recommended to terminate a pregnancy if you have inadvertently become pregnant or were pregnant when having the Rubella vaccine. I doubt that there will be any problem. There are no problems with the measles and mumps component of the vaccine.
