Managing Diabetes During Pregnancy: Risks and Prevention
QuestionI have a question regaurding me having a second child. I have a 3 year old daughter I developed gestational diabetes when pregnant with her and was diagnosed with diabetes a year later. We are now thinking about having a second child I will be 32 years old and on glipizide medication. Our daughter was 8lbs 11oz at birth delivered c-section and is a healthy little girl. I was wondering what I am at risk for or what I should do to prevent us from having a unhealty baby or an unhealthy pregnancy.
AnswerHello DeeAnn- well, you could completely control your diabetes during pregnancy with the correct food plan. I am not suggesting that you stop your medication, but with this food plan your dr may take you off the meds because your blood sugar will be so normal. If you are REALLY interested and motivated to eat the correct foods, get back to me- it takes quite a lot of typing and I want to know if you are really interested. It means eating NO SUGAR AND NO FLOUR for the ENTIRE pregnancy. Hope the hear from you- Cheri.
