Understanding Inducing Labor: Risks, Benefits & Safety at 35 Weeks
QuestionI'm 35 weeks pregnant. And my obgyn is starting to talk to me about inducing labor. I have high blood pressure from the pregnancy but thats under control. I know I would need to get induced if something is wrong. But everything is going well. And my doctor said that if everything keep's going well I don't need to be pregnant any longer. And I don't want a big baby.? I was reading thing anout inducing labor before you body is really ready, and it seem's really risky. Is it really safe? And why would my doctor say that?
AnswerHello Salina. Good for you to question this thinking. Your dr is trying to organize his/her time so that your delivery does not inconvenience him/her- like a birth in the middle of the night. Yes, I'm sorry to say it, but this is done ALL the time and it is criminal!! I want you to go to a website called Nancy Wainer Cohen- she is THE expert in c/section prevention- you are headed for a section - did you know that? Most inductions do NOT work and end in a section. Get your hands on Nancy's two books NOW and read them- you can also email her from that site. If you are in the Boston area, you could also consult her directly. There is NO reason to induce you my dear- you are being asked to accomodate the schedules of the dr and hospital at the risk of yourself and your baby. Actually, I would advise you to seek out some local midwives in your area and have a consult with one or two. You may find that you have more faith in their care than that of the dr. Feel free to repost with anything else. Cheri.
