Post-Cesarean Section Swelling & Recovery: What to Expect
QuestionI recently had a c-section. AFTER my surgery and returning home, both my entire leg and face became swollen. The swelling was much worst than while I was pregnant. My hands seems to be the same (I still can't wear my wedding ring though). My tummy still is big as if I am still pregnant. I am 5 feet 1 inch tall medium frame, before pregnancy weighted 113 lbs. I also had a really bad allergic reaction to some medication because AFTER I HAD BEEN HOME FOR 2 DAYS I received a lot of red itchy rashes mostly between my inner thigh and lower belly, and as far as I know, I'm not allergic to anything. I have stopped taking the pain killers the doctor prescribed to me but the itching and rashes still affects me. All of these after affect just doesn't seem right at all. I've asked other people I know who went through the same ordeal and they didn't go through what I'm going through now. Please help me feel more comfortable about myself before I hit the blues.
AnswerThe swelling is either due to an allergic reaction to something or to an increase in blood pressure and the retention of fluid all over your body. If the swelling persists, you should be examined by your doctor. It may have something to do with the anesthesia you received during your cesarean, however there is really no way to know. YOu may try to use Benadryl to alleviate the itching, but you should see your doctor to find out what is causing the swelling.
