Post-Term Pregnancy: Pain & Induction - What to Expect

Question
I am at 40 weeks pregnant and am 3 days past my due date.  My doctor has set up an induction 10 days from now and does not want to see me again in between this time.  This is my third pregnancy, and while I'm not having contractions, I have a lot of pain in my uterus.  One nurse told me that it is because I had my babies so close together, and the doctor doesn't even think that it is important.  She says I've dialated to one and am 60% effaced, but the baby is still high, and it doesn't look like he's even ready to come down.  However, I am.  Is there anything naturally that I can do to maybe get things moving a little bit?  Is my doctor crazy for not wanting me back in the office to at least check on the baby?  And can emotional distress have an effect on the baby? (My grandfather went into the hospital last night and we had to decide if we wanted to put him on a ventalator.  Today's his birthday, and I refuse to see him because the family decided to do it and last time he begged me to take it out and turn off the machine.  I can't go through that again.  My husband doesn't understand and has been begging me to go.)  Will this put stress on my baby and will it effect my delivery?

Answer
Hello Rosanna. I think you can skip the stress of seeing your grandfather in the hospital. The family is not honoring his wishes and you don't need to share in that problem right now. As long as you feel good about having said your goodbyes in the past, don't go. I am glad your dr is not rushing to force this delivery any sooner. Meantime, have sex- the semen helps, meditate and talk to your body and your baby- tell them that the time is now and you are ready. Try some nipple stimulation- every evening for two full hours, twirl or rub your nipples for a full minute, every five minutes. Hope that helps- Cheri.
