Irregular Periods: Causes, When to See a Doctor - Expert Advice
Questionmy cycles have been getting closer and closer together. This is the third one I have had since June 27. Is this something that I should be concerned with? I am not taking any medications or vitamins. I had a cycle on the 27th of june then again 12 days later and I am on another one today. Should I contact my dr on this issue
AnswerWhen was the first day of your last period and the one prior to that. A cycle is considered within normal limits if it is 21-35 days in length (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period). Sometimes, you may have some bleeding in "mid cycle" (called mittelshmerz) which is due to ovulation and is not your period. This mid cycle bleeding is usually insignificant. If you believe that your cycle is abnormal, keep a careful record of all your bleeding and distinguish between bleeding, spotting, or staining and how many days each lasts. Then consult with your doctor if you are concerned. If your period started on June 27, you are certainly due for another one now. The bleeding that you had 12 days after the last period started was mid cycle bleeding due to ovulation and was normal (although it does not always occur). Don't worry.
