Birth Control & Pregnancy: What to Do If You're Irregular
QuestionI am on birth control, but havent't been taking it consistently is there a greater chance that I could get pregnant? IF i were pregnant and didn't know it and contined to take my birth control would it hurt the baby? I am 23, no children and first day of last mentstruall period was the first of Septmenber
AnswerIf your last period started on September 1, then you are not pregnant. If you were not taking birth control pills, you would ovulate on cycle day #14 and could only conceive if you had sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16 each month. However, if you are taking birth control pills, you will not ovulate and cannot conceive. If you did become pregnant while on birth control pills, there is no harm to the baby or to the pregnancy as long as you stop taking the birth control pills by the second trimester of pregnancy (13 weeks pregnant). Until then, there is no harm. If you miss your period on September 28, wait an additional week and take a pregnancy test if you have any doubts.
