Brownish Period & Breast Tenderness After Starting Birth Control: What Could It Be?

I recently started taking birth control about a month ago.  I had a period two weeks ago but it wasn't like it usually is. It wasn't that heavy and it was more of a brownish color.  Now I am noticing that I am lactating from my nipples.  I took a pregnancy test and it came up negative.  If I am not pregnant do you have any idea what might be going on. Thank you

As long as you are taking birth control pills, you will not become pregnant. Often, when starting birth control pills you will have some breakthfough bleeding for the first three months on the pill. It is usually a brownish stain. When you are on the pill, your period will be less than it was and many patients only bleed for one hour per month. If you are having a whitish discharge from your nipples, you should get a Prolactin level to make sure there is no problem with your pituitary gland.
