Hot Springs & Pregnancy: Safety for Moms & Babies

Question
I am almost 2 months pregnant and 19 years old.  I will be vacationing to Radium hot springs, where the temperature of the pool is 103 degrees.  I was wondering, in your opinion, is it safe for my baby and I to enter the pool for short periods of time if I am not fully submerged. Any additional information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time,
Lindsay

Answer
Hello Lindsay- as long as you  only stay in the pool for short periods- no more than 15 minutes at a time- it should be fine. That temp is not too much of a problem. The real problems come from hot tubs that are at a constant temp of 110 degrees. The damage is done by the interior temp of your vagina reaching temps that can do damage to growing cells in your embryo's body. So it really does not matter whether your upper body etc. is in the water- your vagina is the concern. Hope that helps- Cheri.
