Hot Showers During Pregnancy: Safety & What You Need to Know

Question
I am 32 years old, 28 weeks pregnant with my first child due in June. Is it bad to take hot showers during pregnancy? If so, why? I have been taking hot showers during my entire pregnancy becuase it has been so cold lately! I was told that it was bad for the baby, but I don't understand how that could be. It's not like a jacuzzi where you immerse yourself. My showers last around 15-25 min.

Answer
There is no harm in taking hot showers throughout the pregnancy. However, excessive heat that increases your core temperature too  high ccan lead to muscle defects in the baby. This is usually seen if you spend too long in a jacuzzi or a hot bath. We usually recommend that you merely leave a window open if the area will get too warm. However, there is nothing harmful about hot showers during pregnancy.
