Spotting Early in Pregnancy: What Could It Mean?
QuestionI am 30 years old and have no children. My last period was 2 weeks ago. I missed a pill at the first week of my new pill pack but doubled up like i am supposed to. Yesterday I began spotting a tiny bit. Mostly brownish. No cramps or pain or anything. I am on an anti-depressant (Zoloft) and I take migraine mediation (Imitrex). I know an EPT won't be able to tell this early but if I am pregnant I don't want to be on these meds. I have never spotted before. Not even once. What should I do?
AnswerIf your last period started two weeks ago, you ae now ovulating. Often, at the time of ovulation, you can have some brownish spotting (mittelshmerz). The spotting does not last as long as a period. YOu are not pregnant, especially since you are on the pills and they are 99.9% effective against pregnancy. If you were not on the pill, and you have a normal 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle da #14. You can only become pregnant on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16, each month. Since your last period started only two weeks ago, I doubt that you could have conceived. If you don't get your period in another two weeks, wait a week after you miss your period and then take a pregnancy test. Spotting is not an indication of pregnancy.
